    XAT : Exam Date, Registration, Syllabus, Pattern, Notification


    XAT 2023 will be conducted on 8th January 2023 and registrations have started on 10th August 2022. Candidates will be able to download the XAT admit card from 20th December 2022 onward from the official website. The exam duration is 3 hours and 10 minutes in a single slot. Candidates who wish to appear for the exam should register before 30th November 2022. The notification provides all the details about the XAT exam pattern, registration dates, XAT admit card, exam dates and other important information.

    Based on the notification, there are no changes to the XAT exam pattern or structure. The essay writing section, reintroduced in 2022 will also be included in XAT 2023. XAT 2023 will have 4 sections plus an essay question divided into two parts; Part 1 (VA, DM, QADI) has 165 minutes and Part 2 has General Knowledge and Essay Writing with 15 minutes and 10 minutes, respectively.

    Prepare for XAT 2023

    1. What is XAT Exam?

    For admission to MBA and PGDM programmes at more than 160 Indian universities, the Xavier Aptitude Test, a national exam, is administered. XIMB Bhubaneswar, IMT Ghaziabad, and XLRI Jamshedpur are some of the major business schools that accept the XAT test. The official notification for the XAT 2023 examination was made public on August 9, 2022, and applications for the examination opened on August 10. On January 8, 2023, the exam will be given. This year's test will also include the essay writing portion, which was reintroduced in the XAT 2023 exam. The essay writing portion is not counted toward the cut-off scores, but is instead just reviewed for subsequent rounds.

    2. Eligibility for Appearing in XAT?

    The following XAT eligibility criteria needs to be fulfilled by the candidates to appear for the XAT exam 2023 are:

    • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited institution that takes three years or more to complete.
    • Students in their final year of their Bachelor's degree or awaiting their results are also eligible to apply.
    • There is no specific CGPA or percentage mentioned that has to be obtained in the graduation. No age limit has been specified to appear for  XAT 2023.
    • NRI students can apply through the GMAT exam.

    If a candidate fulfils the given XAT eligibility requirements, they are welcome to apply and appear for the exam.

    3. XAT 2023 Highlights

    The XAT Exam is basically a timed exam where applicants have 190 minutes to complete 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and one 250-word essay. To receive an overview of the exam highlights for the XAT 2023 Exam, take note of the table below.

    4. Syllabus and Marking Scheme for XAT

    XAT Pattern has been shifting slightly over the years. This makes preparing for the XAT Exam slightly tricky however the sections have remained the same due to which the XAT Syllabus can be looked at in brief.

    A) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

    This section is a combination of two sections from the CAT Exam. This section consists of the Quantitative Ability as well as Data Interpretation Questions. The Data Interpretation sets are usually followed by 3-4 questions.

    The syllabus for the Quantitative Ability is the same as in CAT with the most frequently asked topics being:

    The breakup of the section was 16 questions of QA and 12 of DI in XAT 2022.

    B) Decision making

    This is a section that is not tested at all in CAT or in any other MBA Entrance Exams. It consists of 7 to 8 passages with 2-3 questions each. In XAT 2022, the section comprised 6 passages with 3 questions each. The level of difficulty was on the easier side as well.

    There is no particular preparation or syllabus for this section as it is based on the clarity of thought of the candidate. The set of questions also ensures that the answers that the candidate gives do not contradict each other.

    C) Verbal and logical ability

    The Verbal and Logical Ability section of XAT 2023 will comprise 26 objective-type questions.

    • XAT Verbal & Logical Ability section will include questions from topics of grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning.
    • Around 4 RC passages with 3 questions each will be asked. The verbal ability section will have 8 to 10 questions.
    • In 2022, 2 poem-based comprehensions were also asked with 3 questions each.
    • The level of difficulty is generally moderate to difficult.

    D) General knowledge 

    The General Knowledge section of the XAT 2023 has no syllabus and can range from current affairs as well as trivia. Based on previous trends, the questions are a balance between static GK and current affairs. The syllabus for this section can vary from literature and politics to technology.

    E) Essay Writing

    The Essay Writing section was reintroduced in XAT pattern 2022 with candidates being given two options to choose one essay from. There is no syllabus for this section and essay topics are often given based on abstract ideas and thoughts.

    5. Documents Required for XAT

    The applicants must provide a passport-size photo as well as a signature image to the application form. The specifications for the photos are described on the XAT official website, and a brief is given below:

    • XAT Registration Fee – Rs. 2000/-
    • Candidates interested in XLRI programmes need to pay an additional fee of Rs. 200/- each.
    • Indian candidates can apply through GMAT/GRE for PGDM (GM) whereas an NRI/Foreign national can apply through GMAT for all the programmes. Kindly note GRE scores are only valid for PGDM(GM).
    • Fee for Indian Candidates applying for PGDM(GM) through GMAT/GRE– Rs. 2500/-
    • Fee for NRI/Foreign Candidates applying for one or more programmes through GMAT– Rs. 5000/-

    7. Instructions to keep in mind while filling the XAT Exam Form

    1. The application form is integrated with the payment gateway and the payment process can be completed by following the instructions.
    2. The payment can be made by using Debit Cards (RuPay / Visa / Master Card / Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets.
    3. After submitting your payment information, PLEASE WAIT FOR THE INTIMATION FROM THE SERVER. DO NOT PRESS BACK OR REFRESH BUTTON IN ORDER TO AVOID DOUBLE PAYMENT
    4. On successful completion of the transaction, an e-Receipt will be generated. Non-generation of 'E-Receipt' indicates PAYMENT FAILURE. On failure of payment, Candidates are advised to login again using their registered Email ID and Password and repeat the process of payment.
    5. Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-Receipt and online Application Form. Please note that if the same cannot be generated, online transaction may not have been successful.
    6. For Card charges are listed in Indian Rupee. If you use a non-Indian credit card, your bank will convert to your local currency based on prevailing exchange rates.

    There is facility to download/print application form containing fee details after payment of fees.

    Before applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of his / her photograph and signature as per the specifications given below.

    • IN CASE THE FACE IN THE PHOTOGRAPH OR SIGNATURE IS UNCLEAR, THE APPLICATION MAY BE REJECTED.
    • CANDIDATE MAY EDIT THE APPLICATION AND RE-UPLOAD THE PHOTOGRAPH/SIGNATURE IN SUCH CASE.

    8. XAT Exam 2023: Results

    XAT 2023 result will be declared on 31 January 2023. Here is a stepwise approach for downloading your XAT 2023 scorecard:

    • Log on to xatonline.in
    • Enter your enrolment ID and registered password
    • Visit the 'scorecard' section. Your result will be displayed on the screen.
    • Download the XAT 2023 result document and take a printout for future reference.

    One of the most challenging MBA entry examinations is XAT, according to experts. In addition, it is a test for which few candidates apply. This may be because of a variety of factors, including the test's difficulty or the small number of universities that accept it. However, depending on the syllabus and paper format, applicants who are preparing for the CAT exam may also want to take the XAT.
